Overview – Had an awesome time hosting my first out-of-state subscriber tournament! Decided to make it a multi-species tournament since the freshwater florida canals are teeming with a variety of cool gamefish! The C-14 canal didn’t disappoint, with a nice variety of species being caught including bullseye snakeheads, bowfin, peacock bass, and largemouth bass!

This canal isn’t known for producing large quantities of fish, but me buddy Andrew and I have hooked into some good sized snakeheads and bass in the past. The conditions were favorable for a reaction bait bite, but the majority of the fish caught came from soft plastics like senkos and creature baits.

Within the first 15 minutes of the tournament, one of the entrants flipped a brush hog to the shallow grass next to the culvert and hooked into a slob that ended up shaking the hook with it jumped. It was probably about 5 lbs or so but it was a good sign that the fishing was gonna be “off-the-hook!”

After that the action was steady and I weighed in numerous lmb, snakeheads, and bowfin, as well as a few bonus peacock bass which I’ve never caught out of this particular canal. The story of day was a young entrant who hooked into a monster 8+ lb snakehead on a jig that he wasn’t able to land due to the steep bank and thrashing behemoth.
