It feels like cheating to catch bass on Lake Okeechobee with a topwater frog like this! I’m practicing for a big fishing tournament on the lake and this is the first of a few vids capturing the experience running up to tournament day. Pre fishing, looking for bass, testing lures, it’s all here and today was an insane start! The frog fishing was on fire! I even caught a HUGE bass on my modified mag ned rig casting to sticks and isolated cover in a super shallow bay on the lake. These are all just pieces of the puzzle for anglers and the process is about building confidence and executing on tournament day – catching the right bass to take away the win! Aside from all that tournament fishing provides a great sense of community and you get to meet the diversity of anglers on the water, learning throughout the entire process.
Here’s a quick spinner bait lesson using a willow leaf blade coupled with a trailer hook in clear water to improve your chances of hooking a small mouth bass. Captain Ben Wolfe of Traverse City Bass talks about northern Michigan smallmouth bass fishing in the Grand Traverse Bay.
This is the unboxing of the Mystery Tackle Box Pro Box for bass fishing in the hot summer month of August. One of the best boxes I have received from MTB so far! Great spinnerbaits and crankbaits and even some giant Texas sized lizards for catching big bass in the summer time.

A show for the ages. Check out this Season 9 episode of Extreme Angler TV where Karl is fishing for largemouth bass in eastern Ontario and chooses a selection of Strike King Perfect Plastics and fishes isolated weed beds and various structure for some of the biggest bass ever caught on camera in Canadian water. It is a doozy!
In this video I talk all about a proven technique that puts big bass in the boat on a consistent basis. Fishing a plastic tube is the real deal and it is one my favorite ways to fish for bass. I have caught good largemouths and smallmouths with tubes and you can flip, punch, drop shot, drag, cast and skip tubes. They are a very versatile lure that can be used in so many different situations. They often are used to mimic crayfish and smallies can’t resist them. Tubes are also great at mimicking baitfish such as perch or shad and you can catch fish all the way on the bottom to just below the surface with tubes.
I’ll go through a few tips on how I like to fish a tube, along with the colors that I like and the brands I currently use. I’ll will also show you what rod and reel combos I like to use for using a tube.
I hope these tips will help you out and encourage you to pick up the tube bait more often and give it a try on your next fishing trip.
Get the same kind of tubes I use here
Watch the first trial video of Bass Fishing with Tubes…….It turned into a blooper and outtakes video instead!
Travis Manson was born and raised where the giant Smallmouth Bass of the north live…WISCONSIN. He started fishing from the bank as at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. Travis is primarily a self-taught angler that is always learning and experiencing this amazing sport of fishing. He started out fishing for walleyes and fishing in local walleye tournaments, but then in his mid 20’s, he caught the BASS BUG and has been hooked every since. He competed at the highest level in bass fishing on the Bassmaster Elite series for a number of years, until he ran out of $$ money $$. This led to a move across the country to the Northeast where he got things right again and is back on track, but now on his own terms. Perhaps he will make another run at the Elite Series if the opportunity allows. In the meantime, he is a fishing guide offering trips on the Chesapeake Bay for largemouth bass(year round), guided trips for smallmouth back in Wisconsin (during select times) and trophy smallmouth bass guided trips in Upstate New York (May-November) His youtube Channel is named after his passion for the smallmouth bass and will be used as a platform for “how-to” videos, on the water instruction, crazy on and off the water topics and vlogs on the day in the life of a fishing addict! Hope you enjoy!
