Largemouth Bass Behavior: The Spawn

See the Largemouth Bass spawn like you’ve never seen it before. Up close and personal, from above and below the water’s surface.

This is a draft of this documentary to gauge interest in video documentaries about fish behavior. My goal is to produce a comprehensive video series on Largemouth Bass behavior. I will be seeking funding through crowd-funding sources and grants in the near future. If you are interested in supporting my work, feel free to contact me at

Sturgeon Bay Door County Smallmouth Bass Fishing – Sister Bay, Wisconsin

Click here to SUBSCRIBE to my channel:

In this video I head out on Sturgeon Bay out of Sister Bay, WI in Door County for some smallmouth bass fishing. There is plenty of pre spawn fish up shallow and getting ready to head up to spawn. The fish are really grouped up and so we just have to find where they are hanging out! I team up with my friend Paul. Back when I fished tournaments out of Lake Winnebago, Paul was the guy to beat. He has probably won more tournaments on Lake Winnebago then most. The past few years the bite on Lake Winnebago has gotten worse but it looks like it is making a come back! Every year I come back to WI I try to set a time to fish with Paul. He is always focused and fishes hard. Paul isn’t washed up yet!

We started out finding a bunch of smaller males but eventually we ran into some good pre spawn smallmouth bass. Soft plastics were the key for us on this day.

If you want to find out more about Paul’s Grandson’s baits head over to his facebook page and check them out!

Who is SmallmouthCrush?

Travis Manson was born and raised where the giant Smallmouth Bass of the north live…WISCONSIN. He started fishing from the bank at a young age and spent most of his childhood with a rod in his hand. Travis is primarily a self-taught angler that is always learning and experiencing this amazing sport of fishing. He started out fishing for walleyes and fishing in local walleye tournaments, but then in his mid 20’s, he caught the BASS BUG and has been hooked every since. He competed at the highest level in bass fishing on the Bassmaster Elite Series for a number of years. He is a fishing guide offering trips on the Chesapeake Bay for largemouth bass(year round), guided trips for smallmouth back in Wisconsin (during select times) and trophy smallmouth bass guided trips in Upstate New York (May-November) His Youtube Channel is named after his passion for the smallmouth bass and will be used as a platform for “how-to” videos, on the water instruction, crazy on and off the water topics and vlogs on the day in the life of a fishing addict! Hope you enjoy!

Table Rock North division, USA Bassin Fishing Trail, March 31st

Table Rock North division of USA Bassin National Fishing Trail
Watch from 138 secs for ‘where’ and how’ we caught 3 of our 7 keepers!

The Table Rock North division of USA Bassin tournament on March 31st, 2018 was a
great day!

Be sure and check out the middle of the video as we basically tell you where and with what we caught the majority of our double digit bag!

See the ‘short interview’ with me playing MC, while
questioning Westin about our pattern and successful strategy leading to our 3rd place finish that day!

Here’s a video, with a detailed explanation how we caught of limit of ‘fat’ Table Rock bass!

My son Westin Yancey and I fished the second of five Table Rock North division series of USA Bassin Saturday at Aunts Creek ramp!

When we arrived at shortly after 6:00 AM, we were surprised to see 20-30 boats already lining up for another tournament at Aunt’s Creek ramp. With forecast calling for a low 60’s day, we took off
promptly at 7:00 AM.

It had been years or even a decade or longer since I’d fished out of Aunts Creek on Table Rock lake, but I had good bass club memories of many limits brought to the scale while fishing with the ‘Finley River’ bass club back in the ’90s!

My son and I decided due to the recent warming rains, that we’d concentrate early on the warming tho muddy water in the backs of creeks. After about an hour and a half with no bites to speak of, we headed out for deeper water.

Be sure and check out the middle of the video as we basically tell you where and with what we caught the majority of our double digit bag! See the ‘short interview’ with me playing MC, while
questioning Westin about our pattern and successful strategy leading to our 3rd place finish that day!

Congratulations to the Top 4 winning bags, 3 weighed double digit bags (Cole Findley/Matt Cesar; Westin and Randy Yancey; Mike Gold/LG Linville), and the 4th place team of Tony Rains/Adam Issacs, big bass winner (3.08) and weighed a bag over 9+ pounds!

The next tournaments are April 14th at Cape Fair marina and April 15th back at Aunt’s Creek north ramp! For details and early take off numbers go to , Table Rock North division, MO-14! USA Bassin, the fun and affordable bass fishing trail that leads to regional and national championships!
